The whole story
I'm not sure anyone knows this story except me and the ex. It's not a story I've told to my closest friends completely. Son Ya probably knows most of it, though I'm not sure even she knows it all.I've talked to you about him before. I don't think I ever went into great detail about our relationship. I never lied, I just told carefully selected truths. This is the whole story.
In the summer of 1999 I moved from Moscow, Idaho to come here to Virginia where my parents had recently relocated. After a month or so of bumming around, in August I finally got a job at the airport doing customer service in general aviation. Basically, a private jet would call in, I'd talk to them, relay their needs to the linemen, and ring them up for the services.
Enters J, the ex. This is where I met him. He was a lineman and piqued my interest the first moment I saw him, or heard him I should say. He has a very distinctive, contagious laugh. The first time I heard it I was somewhat smitten. What's funny is, now, I can't for the life of me think of what it sounds like.
Anyway, being the new kid I was stuck on the midnight shift, 11pm-7am. Soon after I started many people quit. We were down to only 3 of us behind the counter, one for each shift. I worked the midnights everyday for 3 months. J would often pick up that shift as well for overtime.
In the beginning, we would chat about this and that. We talked a lot since few planes ever came in in the middle of the night. I got to know more about him and vice versa. Soon our conversations became more flirty. We would play and wrestle. I would vow to kick his ass even though he was a big, thick black guy with huge forearms. (I'm still stuck in my elementary school ways. I hit to let you know I care.)
My feelings for him developed quickly. I felt a sense of emptiness when we were apart and longing everytime he was near. I would touch his arm or look at him in my special way to let him know that I wanted him. I had set my sites and I always got what I wanted.
One night, we were in the back kitchen and I was sitting on the counter. I was talking about some nonsense and he began to step closer and closer. My heart raced, my palms sweaty. All of a sudden, he had his arms around me and lifted me into the air. I wrapped my legs around him and he looked into my eyes. Before I could protest, he kissed me.
It was one of those kisses. One of those kisses that stops time. When everything else melts away and it seems you both are the only ones left in this world.
To be continued...
(Know that this is going to be a long story. It may have many parts.)
